River City is just a small town minding its own business until Harold Hill comes to town. The swindling con-man works his way into the heart of the town by professing himself to be the leader of a big band. When he promises to craft a band out of the town’s youngsters, he sets about creating something out of nothing. Hill’s ruse is believed by all the townspeople except for the buttoned-up librarian who is the hardest for Hill to win over. Now complicated by love, the situation gets even more complicated when the town plans a whole celebration around the new band.
