When Mark Thackeray, an aspiring engineer, accepts a teaching position at a school in the slums of London’s East End, he finds the job more than he expected. His rebellious, disinterested students have little respect for him or each other. In an effort to reach his students, Thackeray tosses out his textbooks and endeavors to reach them on a personal and adult level.
